Built from 1385 as one of the Este family’s residences, Palazzo Schifanoia is renowned for the Salone dei Mesi, one of the most important secular fresco cycles of the Renaissance. Through allegorical imagery and scenes of courtly life, the palace evokes the splendour of fifteenth-century Ferrara.
