Our history
Our history began in 1989, when Claudio Abbado created Ferrara Musica with the support of the City Council. Their aim was to establish a concert season which could offer to Ferrara and to the world the best of classical music played by the finest musicians. Ferrara Musica has since become one of the most renowned concert seasons in the world, widely known for the absolute quality of its programs.
The uniqueness of our organisation comes from the fact that since our foundation we have been the official residency of an international orchestra: first the Chamber Orchestra of Europe (1989-1997), then the Mahler Chamber Orchestra. From 2018 to 2022 we welcomed the European Union Youth Orchestra (EUYO), founded by Maestro Abbado in 1976. Since september 2022 our resident orchestra is the Orchestra Mozart: they will be with us for a three-year project dedicated to Beethoven’s nine Symphonies.
Every year, we organise a concert season spanning from september to may and including around 20 events. We welcome famous orchestras and acclaimed soloists as well as young talents.
Everyday we work to achieve the same goal we had at the beginning of our journey: to offer to our audiences the highest possible quality while focusing on accessibility and engagement.
